An individual who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.

The accused was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.

The man engaged in a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his suspicions.

She explained Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.

She explained the man then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
